Organization/Company: The Ann Arbor Summer Festival is a hilarious celebration of performing arts, outdoor entertainment and community spirit. A festival of music and art, where for four weeks there will be dozens of shows, activities, exhibitions and projections representing the best of music, dance, comedy, cinema, circus and street arts and family entertainment. The main mission of this festival is to present a world-wide celebration of arts and entertainment that enriches the region's cultural, economic and social vitality. Founded by Eugene Power in 1984, the Ann Arbor Summer Festival was established as an association between the city of Ann Arbor and the University of Michigan. Initially, the first festivals emphasized classical music and theater, but over time they became different, giving rise to what is the main destination for all artists worldwide. Today the Ann Arbor Summer Festival stands out in two simultaneous programs, one indoors and one outdoors across the University of Michigan campus and in downtown Ann Arbor. The indoor Mainstage includes shows with world-class music tickets, dance, circus and comedy. The outdoor program, Top of the Park, runs along a beautiful green campus and offers concerts without admissions, successful moonlight films, outdoor shows and unique family attractions. Entering its 35 season in 2018, the Ann Arbor Summer Festival offers a progressive mix of regional, national and international artists of all disciplines.
