Organization: Street Child is a grassroots charity that helps children living in some of the toughest places in Africa and South Asia to go to school. They are dedicated to empowering vulnerable children through education and currently have a special focus on girls’ education and education in emergencies. Street Child prides itself on being willing to go to the world’s toughest places where others won’t, including remote, hard-to-reach areas and fragile, disaster-affected states. They began their work in 2008 in Sierra Leone and they now work in Liberia, Nigeria, Uganda, Democratic Republic of Congo, Afghanistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh.

 

Duty Station: different locations to choose from for volunteering:

- Sierra Leone;

- Uganda;

- Sri Lanka;

- Nepal;

 

Open To: all those from university students, recent graduates, career changers and Development professionals.

Job description: The volunteers provide support to their teams on a needs basis, so they can make a long term and positive impact on their international projects. The Programmes Volunteer role is an opportunity for individuals to develop their career and pursue their interest in International Development. This placement involves working within an international organisation that is running large scale programmes across the globe. Successful applicants will work closely alongside their local partners and teams on the ground to support their in-country programmes.

 

Qualifications: the requirements to partecipate at this programme are:
- evidence of significant professional and/or educational experience with a relevant and transferable skill set;
- keen interest in understanding and contributing to the Development Sector;

- excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- professional and diligent in presentation and conduct;
- independent and capable of proactive work plan management with minimal support;

- flexible, adaptable and able to thrive in a startup environment;
- thoughtful, resourceful, reflective, and eager to learn;
- culturally responsive and respectful;

 

Wage/Fees: This is a self funded trip, which includes flights, visas, vaccinations, and any additional costs such as food and leisure time while in-country. To help keep you in-country costs low, Street Child have a fixed daily rate £7 in Sierra Leone & £10 in all the other countries which covers your airport transfer, accommodation and project-related travel.
