Organization/Company: The Office of the Under-Secretary-General for Management supports the Under-Secretary-General in the implementation of the priorities and tasks of the Department, in particular those related to the objectives of management reform. The Front Office monitors and coordinates departmental activities in order to streamline the work produced by the offices within the Department; collaborates with the host country, non-governmental organizations and other external entities on management issues. The Under Secretary for Management is the State Department representative on the Presidential Management Board and is the department official responsible for implementing the President's Management Agenda (PMA). The PMA is a set of management initiatives designed to make the government more citizen-centered, effective and efficient. There are five PMA initiatives on a government scale: Human Capital (lead: Bureau of Human Resources); E-Government (Bureau of Information Resource Management); Competitive Sourcing (Bureau of Administration); Financial management and budget and performance integration. The Department is also collaborating with the White House Management and Budget Office on the PMA initiative focused on "legitimizing" the US government's overseas presence

Job description: The Under-Secretary-General for Management Office offers the possibility of following an internship for a minimum of three months. The selected candidate will work within the Capacity Development Program at the United Nations headquarters. Ongoing responsibilities will include assistance with updating the online resources of the HCC, organizing and coordinating training sessions for local committees on contracts in field operations, maintaining statistics on training and the preparation of training materials. The selected trainee will also help to maintain a database to facilitate the monitoring of the operation of Local Contract Committees (LCC), developing an easy-to-use data analysis tool to analyze LCC statistics, conduct research, analyze and summarize statistics for field evaluation missions, it will fill in data related to the workload of the local Committee for contracts and other tasks, if required

 

Qualifications: The ideal candidate must meet the following requirements:

-Be a student enrolled in a graduate school programme, a student enrolled in the last year of a three-year degree or a student who has completed a degree and begins internship one year after the achievement of the same

-Knowledge of the Office package

-Show interest in the work done by the United Nations

-Excellent knowledge of English; the knowledge of another official language UN, in particular French, will be considered an advantage
