BIGSSS-departs Early Stage Researchers dedicate themselves to:

-conducting a specific dissertation project,

-following a 42-month structured curriculum, including a six-month stay abroad at an external academic partner institution or with an external non-academic partner.

Qualifications: For the program starting in February 2017, BIGSSS seeks candidates with strong academic abilities and a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in political science, sociology, or psychology. Potential candidates with a degree in related social science disciplines are also welcome. Applicants must be in the first four years (full-time equivalent research experience) of their research careers and not yet have been awarded a doctoral degree. All accepted researchers are asked to move to Bremen for the program as presence at the institution is required. Applicants must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Germany for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the date of their application. Compulsory national service and/or short stays such as holidays are not taken into account. All nationalities are welcome to apply.

Wage/Fees: The employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act, §2 (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz – WissZeitVG), with a pay rate according to the regulations of the  BIGSSS-departs (doctoral education in partnerships) PhD Program Call for Applications COFUND program. Timeframe: Minimum of 3 months required. The EEB does not accept interns during the period from mid-July to end of August as there is a clear slow down of activities at EU level.

Job description: The EEB offers: professional and international working environment.; work in an international team of staff members; supervision by EEB staff members; experience with the EU institutions in Brussels; experience with working in the largest environmental citizens organisation in Europe; a contract for the required period. Some issues the intern will work on include:

- Communications work

- Air, Biodiversity, Nanotechnology

- Chemicals, EPP (Ecological Product Policy)

- Law Enforcement, Noise

- Waste, Water, etc.

Qualifications:

- Appropriate environmental/communications/studies/skills/qualifications depending on role.

- Very good English, spoken and written – any other languages are also welcome.

Wage/Fees:  The intern will receive a daily financial contribution amounting to 9, 50 EUR with a maximum total of 1,334,55 EUR for the whole period . Travel costs will be reimbursed within the Belgian public transport system.
