Organization/Company: European Capital Market Institute - ECMI was established as an independent non-profit organisation in 1993, in a collaborative effort by the European Federation of Financial Analysts Societies (EFFAS), the Federation of European Securities Exchanges (FESE) and the International Capital Market Association (ICMA). Since 2005, ECMI has been managed and staffed by CEPS, a highly reputed, independent think tank in Brussels. The Annual General Meeting of Members is usually organised in October/November on the eve of the Annual Conference. Board Meetings are organised twice each year, usually in February/March and June/July, respectively. The board is very well diversified, composed of highly reputed individuals in their field of expertise. The board members provide the strategic direction of the organisation, supervise the work of the management team and the financial performance of the institute. The research staff works on the basis of an independent agenda; they are assisted by the academic scientific committee. Through its commentaries and policy briefs, ECMI analyses the latest regulatory developments and puts forward proposals and recommendations to help shape the regulatory and policy debate. ECMI also produces detailed research reports on key policy issues and market developments. As well as conducting in-house research, ECMI responds to calls for proposals from external entities and hosts contributions from high profile researchers and young academics based on its call for papers. ECMI regularly organises workshops, seminars and task forces on a variety of issues facing European capital markets. Participation in ECMI events offers multiple networking opportunities. The Annual Conference is a unique event in Brussels, bringing together over 30 high level speakers and more than 300 participants.

Job description: European Capital Market Institute - ECMI welcomes applications for its Research Traineeship Programme. The programme is intended for current master’s students who wish to further develop their analytical, drafting and networking skills in a leading European think tank. An agreement will be drafted between ECMI/CEPS and the candidate’s university. The trainee will be able to gain insights into financial markets and their functioning and the relevant regulatory/policy framework by contributing to the day-to-day work of ECMI alongside the general manager and the research/administrative staff. The trainee will be provided with office space, available data resources and computing facilities and will receive a monthly allowance. The main Responsibilities are:
- Compiling and interpreting data on capital markets (ECMI Statistical Package & Findings)
- Drafting commentaries and policy briefs on specific topics
- Supporting the team in helping to organise seminars/conferences/task forces
Qualifications: The ideal candidate should meet the following requirements:
- Be currently enrolled in an MA/ MSc in Economics/Finance/Statistics and show a strong interest in capital markets
- Demonstrate a good understanding of financial instruments/intermediaries and be familiar with financial/macro-economic databases
- Possess a working knowledge of MS Office and statistical/econometrics software
- Show an advanced command of English with proven drafting ability
