Organization: The European Solidarity Corps is the new initiative of the European Union that offers young people work or volunteer opportunities, either in their own country or abroad, as part of projects to help communities or populations in Europe. The European Solidarity Corps manages a wide range of projects, for example related to the prevention of natural disasters or reconstruction following a disaster, assistance in centers for asylum seekers or social problems of various kinds in the communities. Projects supported by the European Solidarity Body can last up to twelve months and normally take place on the territory of the Member States of the European Union.

Job description: The European Solidarity Corps is a pool of young people who have indicated their intention to participate in solidarity projects and have declared that they accept and respect the mission and principles of the European Solidarity Corps. Depending on the type of project and the candidate's skills and experience, the European Solidarity Body could propose training activities before starting the project. Some examples of tasks that could be entrusted are:

- help rebuild a school or community center destroyed by an earthquake
- provide assistance to newly arrived asylum seekers
- thin out the wooded vegetation to prevent fires
- work with disabled people in a community center

 

Qualifications: candidates must meet the following requirements:
- be aged between 18 and 30 years;
- reside legally or be a citizen of one of the Member States of the European Union or of the following countries: Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Turkey, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.

 

Application process: In order to apply, follow the on-line procedure indicated on the European Solidarity Body page.

After registration, the candidate's data will be kept in the European Solidarity Corps system. Organizations will have access to the database to find people suitable for their projects and will contact them to ask them to participate in the projects in question.

The European Commission will invite organizations to submit proposals to receive funding or other types of support for projects compatible with the mission and principles of the European Solidarity Corps. Once their projects have been approved, organizations will have access to the pool of candidates to select the most suitable young people to take part in it. The organizations will then contact the preselected people and proceed to the final choice.
