  • Use the UNIS Trello Boards to plan content ahead of time, maintain and update weekly editorial calendars, collect and collate multimedia information from different departments and organizations;
  • Monitor various sources for new content and information about what is happening in and around the UN on a given week;
  • Edit and subtitle news videos for UN Geneva social media channels, using dedicated software (Adobe Premiere Pro); create visuals, quote cards and other materials as requested using online tools (such as Canva or Adobe Photoshop);
  • Attend press conferences and events at UN Geneva to gather quotes and take photos and videos which can be used in social media posts;
  • Take photographs or make short videos at UN Geneva and beyond;
  • Draft posts for Facebook, Twitter and Instagram as requested;
  • Research trends and interesting posts from partners and suggest retweets/regrams; monitor the social media accounts for followers’ comments and questions, and flag them to the Press Officer as needed;
  • Take an active role in the live coverage of events;

  • Attend biweekly press briefings with other UNIS interns; prepare at least one summary of the briefing and receive feedback;

  • Contribute to the daily media monitoring of Swiss newspapers (in French, German, Italian and English), with other UNIS interns;

Job description: The Development and AWSIF Intern is responsible for assisting the Communication & Partnership Officer in implementing the tailored Outreach and Development Plan for the 2021 Arab World Social Innovation Forum, which includes the following tasks:

  • Support research efforts in building a comprehensive sponsor and donor database and outreach timetable 
  • Assist in proposing potential corporate, individual, family, and other sponsors according to the profile of AWSIF 2021 and interested parties
  • Contribute to creation and implementation of Development outreach ideas including correspondence, events, media campaigns, etc. 
  • Assist in securing updated and effective contact details for all potential sponsors and donors
  • Maintain a prospect tracking system through ongoing research and filing
  • Support preparation for sponsor outreach – including scheduling, sending correspondence, follow-up
  • Prepare for and attend development meetings with potential sponsors/donors as needed
  • Support the creation of high-quality, engaging written materials to target potential donors/sponsors
  • Draft correspondence to respond to donor/prospect requests for information
  • Support the content creation and overall quality management of outreach/marketing materials including the event brief & sponsorship packages
  • Assist in establishing a tailored system for follow-up including drafting timely and effective reminders to all prospective sponsors/donors
  • Support research efforts to establish a high-level database of potential speakers of all levels
  • Work closely with the content team to propose keynote speakers, moderators, panelists, and other VIP speakers/participants befitting the scope and objectives of AWSIF 2021
  • Assist in developing a comprehensive and user-friendly database for all prospective speakers, including conducting necessary research to obtain up-to-date and comprehensive contact information
  • Maintain a speaker tracking system through ongoing research and filing
  • Support the creation and dissemination of high-caliber and targeted outreach materials to potential speakers
  • Draft invitations to potential speakers according to proposed role
  • Draft correspondence to respond to requests for information
  • Support all administration and stewardship tasks to manage the successful participation of sponsors/donors, speakers, and other VIPs 
  • Produce and/or compile personalized materials (e.g., publications, letters) to engage relevant stakeholders according to their profile and interests 
  • Properly manage and upgrade knowledge management files for Ashoka’s Arab World development efforts 
  • Establish and organize development and tracking records for all donor/sponsor/speaker prospects
  • Organize historical development data when needed
  • Assist in other ways as needed with the research, practical implementation, and administration necessary to achieve the goals of the Development Unit.

Performance management:

  • Together with her/his supervisor, the intern will develop a performance agreement at the beginning of her/his term. This agreement will include goals, measures and expected results and will be the baseline for the performance review to take place at the midpoint and end of the employment period.
  •  Together with her/his supervisor, the staff member will develop a plan of action for the term of employment. This plan will be created at the beginning of the period of employment and updated on a monthly basis.
  • The staff member will send a monthly report with all activities executed during the month; to be sent to the Communication & Partnership Officer, HR & Operations Manager, and Regional Director at the end of each month.

  • Research, fundraising and event planning experience preferred
  • Excellent writing and analytical skills 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
